There is an old adage that is used in excess in the United States; the adage states that if you appreciate your freedom you should be willing to thank a solider every chance you get. There have been a lot of wars fought on American soil, and ever since these wars have been going on there have been countless men and women that have lost their lives to protect the freedom of all of the people that reside in the United States of America. Ever since the beginning of time people have been more than obliged to participate in Memorial Day celebrations.

Even though people have avidly been practicing this holiday for an elongated frame of time, the observance of the special date was not passed until June 28, 1968. The holiday was not marked as anything special until 1971.

Most people that observe this important holiday are actually oblivious to the fact that this particular day was not documented in United States history until the 70s. Apparently, there were a lot of legal litigation’s that the White house had to go through in order to have this particular date documented as a special occasion.

There are many different ways that you can elect to celebrate this momentous day. A lot of employers will choose to shut down their businesses on this day and give all of their employees the day off to spend with their families and loved ones. However, there are some employers that will still mandate that their employees must perform their essential tasks despite the importance of the day.

Throughout the United States there are special speeches, prayers and parades conducted to remember the fallen soldiers that gave their lives up to ensure that their families would be safe and have the freedom that they deserve. If for some reason, you cannot make an appearance at one of the speeches or parades a lot of these occurrences are televised online and on your television sets.

Most people tend to interpret the day as a day to remember those that have passed on for the sake of the United States. Regardless if you opt to spend the day with your family, or you elect to visit the grave sites of those that gave up their lives for your freedom it is important to remember that without the soldiers that risked their lives for your freedom you would not be in the position that you currently are.
