Cakes and Pies and Muffins, Oh My!
Do you sometimes feel overwhelmed at the thought of making homemade desserts and treats for your family? Of course you do, we all do. With proper planning and preparation you can wipe that feeling away.
Autumn is a great time to bake because it’s cooler and a lot of the activities that kept you busy over the summer, are now long gone. Nothing smells better than a house filled with the aroma of fresh baked goodies. Having homemade baked goods in the house is a welcome treat for the whole family.
Holiday time is such a busy time in our lives. Between the shopping and decorating, there isn’t much time left to do baking. Starting now with one or two treats a week, gets your freezer full and your family excited.
Plan your baking menu ahead of time. Know what you like to bake and go with that. Bundt cakes, and layer cakes freeze well before you frost them. Pies do also, but with the great smell going on in the kitchen, it will be hard to keep your family at bay.
Muffins and breads are another great thing to bake prior to the holiday season. Although, these can be baked year round for those mornings when you are rushed and have to eat something. You can make healthy muffins loaded with fiber that your family will love and they are so easy to serve your house guests. Doing breads, like banana, apple cinnamon, walnut, etc. are nice to have in the freezer for a quick finish to a luncheon.
Be sure to start watching the supermarket ads for sales on your baking supplies. Spreading the cost out over a few weeks really helps with your grocery budget. Look for coupons in magazines and online to help defray the costs. A lot of stores will offer specials around this time of the year, just keep an eye out for them.
Making your life simpler around the holidays or just about any time of the year is what it’s all about. Your family will love the taste of these homemade treats and you’ll feel satisfied knowing that you made them yourself. Have fun baking!
