Easy Mai Tai Recipe For Every Occasion

The Mai Tai recipe is loved by many, especially rum lovers. This drink was invented one day in a restaurant in Oakland, California. When a man known as Trader Vic has a sip of this tasty drink, he shouted “Maita’l roa” which means “simply too good”, and thus, the Mai Tai was born.

The Mai Tai gained wide stream popularity after it’s showcase in the Blue Hawaii movie, starring Elvis Presley. Nowadays, you’ll find it at Tiki bars, restaurants and gatherings. It’s considered a regular.

Over time, there have been lots of variations for this cocktail drink. But, the meticulous tikiphiles would always insist on using the same methods and ingredients in preparing the traditional recipe of Mai Tai that was first created by Trader Vic (Victor J. Bergeron).

This rum based drink is often made with tropical fruits and fruit juices. This additional gives it the Hawaiian feel.

You can add pineapple juice to this original recipe and it is then called a Maui Mai Tai. Orange juice is another popular alternative which alters the original recipe.

Since 2008, Trader Vic’s chain of restaurants has started to open small establishments popularly known as the Mai Tai Bars that serve appetizers or pupus and cocktails. This drink is often associated with tropical places, pool side parties and vacationing because of its fruity ingredients.

There are many different ways to prepare this fun cocktail. Here is one that I like in particular. Garnish with a beautiful flower for an even more Polynesian style. I like to serve it with chunks of tropical fruit on a skewer.

Ingredients:

* Fresh mint to garnish

* 2 ounces of rum and shaved ice

* 1 oz. orange Curacao

* Freshly squeezed lime juice

* 1 ounce French Garnier Orgeat Syrup

* ounce Rock Candy by Trader Vic’s

Preparing the Mai Tai Drink:

Pour the rum over the shaved ice in a glass.

Add the fresh lime juice to the mixture.

Stir all ingredients in the glass well.

Serve this drink with a fancy straw or umbrella and add skewered tropical fruit or a flower for an extra touch.

Serve to guests.
