Dutch oven have been used in the world of cooking for quite a long period now. People say that Dutch ovens of the highest quality are made of cast iron, and those ovens are known for retaining the heat for a long time. This is possible for them because of a lid which perfectly sits on top, and also thanks to their thick walls. Unlike many other dishes we can use at home, Dutch ovens can also be used for cooking on fire.

They were also made to be more shallow, and an alternation was made to the lid. They added a flange so that the coals would be kept out of the oven.

Dutch ovens are called ovens for a reason, because one can actually bake in them. You can bake stuff on a regular stove, and over fire, in case you go camping. Dutch ovens are suitable for making bread, cake and many other baking products. One of the things you have to take care of is that you don’t burn them, as they are bakes over fire. One can also put a smaller baking pan inside the Dutch oven, and make bread this way.
