How to Make a Chocolate Cake at Home

Say goodbye to cake mixes that come in a box. Why use a boxed mix to make a cake when you have the option to use a homemade chocolate cake recipe? When you put all of the ingredients in the cake yourself, you will know precisely what’s going to end up on your table when it’s done, and that’s worth more than the small amount of extra effort that it takes to cook a chocolate cake recipe from scratch. Besides that, everyone knows a home-made chocolate cake recipe will taste miles better than what comes out of a box. Chances are you already have most of the ingredients too.

What you’ll need:

- 1/2 cup of butter or margarine

- Two cups of sugar

- Three medium eggs

- 1 1/2 tsp of vanilla

- Three squares of baker’s chocolate

- Two cups of flour

- 2 tsp of baking soda

- Half (1/2) tsp. of salt

- One (1) cup of sour cream

- One (1) cup of boiling water

Preparation:

1. Mix together the butter and sugar in a large mixing bowl.

2. Crack the eggs into the bowl and continue to mix.

3. Add the vanilla and chocolate and mix vigorously.

4. Add the remaining ingredients. (It helps to sift the dry ingredients.) Use an electric beater if you have one convenient as it’ll make this process much easier.

5. Pour the mix into a lightly greased baking pan.

6. In a pre-heated oven at 350F, bake the cake batter for thirty-five (35) minutes. Keep a watch on it when it gets close to the end.

A couple of notes regarding allergic reactions and lifestyle preferences.

Vegans: Some vegans prefer not to consume butter or margarine or perhaps eggs and sour cream. As these ingredients represent a major portion of the recipe I’d suggest avoiding this particular recipe altogether. I have created numerous alternate recipes for vegans which can be found on the Cake Recipe Secrets web site.

Celiac’s: Rice flour is an alternative, but it tends to make the batter thinner leading to a dryer baked product.

Nuts: Whilst the recipe is nut-free some people may decide to add them for their texture. My recommendation would be walnuts or maybe almonds. The almonds should be thinly sliced and peeled.

Also, if time is an issue and you need some type of icing then a thin layer of double cream with a drizzle of honey is the best short-cut.

When the chocolate cake has finished baking, simply remove it from the oven to cool down. Before it has completely cooled, add a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a delicious combination.
