Onigiri Onigiri are the traditional Japanese rice balls. They sometimes come with a filling, more often than not fish. They’re very common among the Japanese and are oftentimes found inside students’ bento boxes. Making your own onigiri is very simple. You only need Japanese rice and make sure it is freshly-cooked. You also need some salt for flavoring and the nori seaweed which will function as the covering or plaster of the ball of rice. The seaweed will keep the ball in place. Before forming the rice into a ball, put an opening at the center. Fill this dent with your choice of stuffing. You could opt for salmon or pickles or what have you. After putting in the filling, you could begin shaping the rice into a ball and wrapping it later with the seaweed.
Tonkatsu If you want to serve meat for dinner, then one could consider cooking tonkatsu. This is pork chop or cutlet rolled in breadcrumbs which impart it a crispy covering. Cooking this is easy as well. You simply have to roll the pre-seasoned cutlets in flour and later dip them in beaten egg. After that , roll them again but this time in the bread crumbs. Deep fry until golden brown.
Many Japanese prefer their dinner with veggies on the side so you could try it, too. After all, the cooking adds up to the tempting charm of Japanese food.
