Learning To Enjoy Cooking For Family And Friends
As many individuals today have come to realize, Celiac Disease and gluten-intolerance are very real issues. For, if one has Celiac Disease, gluten-intolerance or both, as is the case for all Celiac Disease patients, a gluten-free diet can often lack iron and be pretty bland without wheat, rye or barley of any kind. However, if creative, one can use a variety of nuts and spices in which to create crusts and liven up the dullest foods, while learning to enjoy cooking other gluten-free foods over time. To offset the iron issue, most gluten-free individuals take iron supplements to add iron back into the diet and with the introduction of gluten-free breads and recipes now available, most have also found great alternatives to breads now as well.
So, although there may be some foods on the market which are gluten-free that are preprocessed, often these have additional issues. One being that these foods tend to cost twice as much as their non gluten-free counterparts. To this end, if one wishes to buy such products, one may want to prepare for an average weekly grocery bill for a gluten-free family of two-four people of approximately $200 to $300. Although, if one can only buy what needs at a time with regards to gluten-free foods, then one can often afford to be on such a diet, especially one is required to do so for medical reasons.
Today, there is far more knowledge about both Celiac Disease and gluten-intolerance, though some reports are mixed whereas others have been proven through science. Therefore, while limited, the gluten-free diet does include a variety of options relating to meats, poultry, fish and vegetables, it is merely the wheat, rye and barley which must be eliminated from the diet. In addition, while there are mixed reports on the reactions to vinegar due to it having gone through a distillation process, there are several gluten-intolerant individuals who react to same. Therefore, one may want to choose a rice based vinegar over a barley based one to be on the safe side.
There is one benefit to this condition among a few others, which is that it can be controlled through food rather than medication. For, often a medication is quickly prescribed for many conditions which may have other options. In addition, as many have seen in the recent past, prescription medication is also on the rise. Therefore, if one can control such a condition through diet and exercise alone, then one has the best option of managing the condition in a healthy and holistic way over time.
So, if one can avoid all foods, including breads and rolls, which are made of wheat, rye and barley, one can avoid many complications in relation to both the large and small intestine over time. For, when one has Celiac Disease or is gluten-intolerant, if one continues to eat gluten, the nutrients of any food one consumes is lost and can not be processed. Thus, leaving many Celiacs with extreme iron deficient anemia, which in and of itself, can also be a serious condition.
While there is some work going on with relation to developing medications which can allow one to eat any foods one desires, it is a long way from realization. Besides, if one can control a condition through a healthy diet, questions remain as to why one might want to take medication rather than simply eat the foods one can enjoy. Nonetheless, the research continues and someday there may actually be a pill which allows people to eat foods with which one has had allergy issues in the past.
