Roasted Jalapeno

If you’re trying to eat healthier food and get more fit, one of the most important things you can do is eliminate fried foods from your diet. But what if you love jalapeno poppers and don’t want to give them up? Don’t worry, you can enjoy roasted jalepeno peppers if you know how to make them.

Jalapeno poppers are usually stuffed with cheese, battered and deep fried. Sometimes they also contain bacon or sausage or even ground beef. Theyre delicious but not very healthy. But underneath all the fried batter is still a jalapeno pepper. And last time I checked, a jalapeno pepper was still a vegetable. If you remember that this is a vegetable youre on your way to healthier popper.

When you pick a cheese to stuff the pepper, stay clean of the cream cheese. Picking a low fat or part skim cheese is a good choice. Dairy products like cheese will tone down the spiciness of the peppers. So if you like it hot, why not skip the cheese all together. Or you can go with a really strong cheese like blue cheese or goat cheese and you won’t have to use as much.

Some other good things to stuff into a jalapeno pepper are black olives, pimentos or even small amounts of salsa. To keep with the healthy theme you can replace ground beef with ground turkey or even turkey bacon. Most of the time people won’t even know the difference but your arteries will thank you later.

One important thing to remember is to get a jalapeno pepper roaster. They are usually a stainless steel rack that goes in the oven or the barbecue and holds the peppers upright. This way you can get a nice roast on the pepper without all of the stuffing oozing out and being wasted.

Jalapeno poppers are delicious but there’s much better ways to get your fill of jalapenos. And the best way to do that is to avoid the deep fat fryer and try a roasted jalapeno pepper instead.
