Use Smoothies To Add Nutrtion To Your Daily Meals
Outside of the fact that they taste good, what are the factors behind the dieticians telling us we need five servings daily?
Here are a few of the considerations as described by USDA:
• Fruit is naturally rich in potassium, fiber, vitamin C, and folic acid.
• Diets with food containing soluble fiber may lower the potential for heart disease.
• Other supposed benefits based on eating fruits include:
o Reduced risk for stroke
o Reduced risk for certain cancers such as mouth, stomach and colon-rectal
o Lessened potential for kidney stones
To get the most benefits out of the fruit you add to your eating habits, consider these tips:
• Choose whole or pre-cut fruit as opposed to juice to include the features of soluble fiber
• Put fruits high in potassium high on your list. Such as bananas, honeydew melons, oranges and prunes
• If you’re using canned fruit use the fruits canned with 100% juice or water instead of syrup.
• Mix your choices. Different fruits have totally different nutrient contents and you will not lose interest!
Typically, the majority of fruit is consumed at breakfast which puts all of that good nutrition into the body at the start of a new day. Most of us top cereal with bananas or strawberries and drink a glass of orange or grapefruit juice.
There is not a thing wrong with this approach because some fruit is without a doubt better than no fruit whatever.
