The first thing you’ll need is a recipe. They are very easy to find on the Internet. Look for a simple one with the most often used ingredients: flour, water, salt, oil and yeast. That’s all you really need to make a great pizza crust.

Measure out all your ingredients beforehand and set them aside. This makes the process so much smoother than having to stop and start during the mixing procedure.

Mix together all your dry ingredients first before adding liquid. Put the salt, yeast and flour into a bowl and stir them well, then add the water. The water should be lukewarm and optimally around 105 degrees for good yeast fermentation.

A wooden spoon or other heavy utensil should be used to stir the ingredients at this point. It takes a lot of effort to combine the dough at this stage. Add the oil last and stir until everything is combined.

It’s a good idea to go ahead and measure out a small amount of flour at this point and put it near your work area. It will be needed soon to prevent the dough from sticking to everything including you. Put the dough on a floured board or counter top and get ready to knead.

Kneading is very simple. Just push down and away, flattening the dough as you work. Next fold the dough over itself and rotate 90 degrees. Push down and away again, fold and turn. Repeat this process for about 5 minutes or until the ball of dough takes on a smooth shine and is very elastic when you pull it apart.

After placing the dough in an oiled bowl, move it all around to coat with the oil. Put plastic wrap over it and put it in a warm part of the kitchen. After about two hours it should be doubled in size.

Once risen, turn the dough out onto a floured surface again and flatten and shape it some with your hands. Begin rolling it out with a rolling pin until you get the thickness you want. Many people prefer a 1/8″ thickness.

When done, carefully pick it up and place it in your baking pan. You can now trim the dough where needed to fit your pan. Form an edge around the lip of the pizza if you like. Some people like this, others don’t. It’s your pizza, do what you want.

And to think you asked how to make a pizza crust! You’ve now got one right in front of you!
